We are happy to announce we have a new branch officer; Adam Shropshire. Adam works in Academic Services on Falmer campus and is our branch Disabled Members Officer.
The reason I got involved with the post of disability’s officer is because I myself was paralysed and disabled; wheelchair bound for nearly 2 years, so it gave me an insight into what it is like to be on the receiving end of the difficulties involved. Also, disabilities encompasses mental health as well and I have had my demons in the past to overcome, as well as most others, and believe strongly that there is too much preconception and bias even in this day and age so anything I can do to help and support anybody is the least I can do.
I joined UNISON because I believe that one person on their own might not be to be heard but as a collective we can make a change, and I know that UNISON has the power to make change if we all work together.
